Honourable Speaker 2022 Budget Presentation Speech

Kano State House of Assembly in its plenary session today Thursday, presided over by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, said it would make sure that the 2022 budget as presented by the Executive Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to the House would do everything possible to pass the budget so as to give way for its implementation before January, 2022. The Speaker stated this in his speech after the Budget presentation by the Executive Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Speaker Chidari said the budget which was tagged “BUDGET OF CONSOLIDATION AND PROSPERITY” would be passed as timely as possible so that the implementation will commence by the first day of January next year. Speaker Chidari then urged all Head of MDA’s in the State to prepare and make themselves available to defend their budget proposals before the respective Committees of the House and at the same time draw the attention of the interested non- governmental organizations, civil societies and other professional bodies to get ready for the House invitations for the conduct of the public hearing on the 2022 budget estimates which would be conducted in line with established COVID-19 protocols. Rt Hon Chidari said by doing so the House would swing into actions to pass the 2022 Budget before the end of 2021 to help the state keep to its January – December Budget circle. He commended the Executive Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for embarking on series of developmental projects and programs across the state. Speaker Chidari further revealed that the existing cordial and harmonious working relations between the Executive arm and the Legislative Arm resulted in improvement of the lives of the citizenry in the state and assured the Governor that the House would continue to play it’s role in making laws relevant to societal development in the state.

This year’s budget stand at N196 billion naira ,where as recurrent expenditure for the 2022 is estimated at N 88,473,614,717.03 which is about 45 percent of the total Budget and the capital expenditure was N107,879,853,788.07.In line with United Nations policy the State Governor has much priority to Education sector with highest percentage of 26 of the total budget as presented before the House. The budget seek to further consolidate the state government policies for the betterment of the lives of the citizenry through directing resources and efforts towards stimulating the state socioeconomic growth as revealed by the Governor. The Speaker on behalf of Honourable Members of the House salutes the State Governor especially for supporting State Legislatures Autonomy and signing of the Kano State Legislative Service Commission into Law and the subsequent swearing in and inaugurating of the members of the Commission. He salutes the Executive Governor for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections of the APC Party Executives and officials and at the same time congratulated the newly elected Party Chairman Honorable Abdullahi Abbas. The House Adjourned sitting to Monday next week in a motion moved by the Majority Leader Hon Labaran Abdul Madari Member representing Warawa Constituency and Seconded by Hon Pharmacist Magaji Dahiru Zarewa Member representing Rogo Constituency.
